Dry eyes? Blurry vision? There are things you can do to help keep your eyes healthy and make sure you are seeing your best. Don’t forget to get your eyes checked regularly, or if you have any new vision problems.
Eat a balanced diet
Good eye health starts with the food on your plate. Nutrients like zinc, beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin are especially protective for your eyesight. Your diet should include plenty of fruits and dark leafy greens. Eating fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon and tuna can also help your eyes.
Wear sunglasses
UV rays from the sun not only can burn your skin, but also harm your eyes. Make sure you wear sunglasses when you’re out to protect your eyes. Also, wearing a hat with a brim will greatly reduce the amount of UV radiation slipping around the side of your sunglasses.
Exercise
Getting regular physical activity can also help protect your eyesight. Cardio exercises will lower intraocular pressure and that help to keep the retinal ganglion cells protected. Also, staying physically active can help improve blood circulation, which improves oxygen levels to the eyes and the removal of toxins. Get out there and get active!
Give your eyes a rest
Staring at a computer or phone screen for too long can cause dry eyes, eye strain and blurry vision. Remember to rest your eyes every 20 minutes. Look away about 20 feet in front of you for 20 seconds.
