How to Get Rid of Insomnia

Insomnia is one of the most common disorders. It means cannot go to sleep or keep asleep. Insomnia can be short term and may not pose much of a problem. However, frequent bouts of severe insomnia or chronic insomnia can affect your ability to function normally through the day and even affect your quality of life.

As insomnia can be quite problematic, that’s why we’ve rounded up a few home remedies for insomnia that can help send you off to the insomnia in a more natural way.

Warm Milk

A glass of warm milk can put you into sleep mode if you drink it before sleep. Warm milk can raise your internal body temperature when it is heated. It will relax you and make you sleepy and calm, eventually fall asleep. You may ask if hot chocolate works.  However, hot chocolate doesn’t work as well as milk. It contains high levels of xanthines, like caffeine which will affect the quality of your sleep.

Lavender

Lavender is a natural remedy for getting rid of insomnia. Compounds of lavender’s oil help to slow brain waves which help relieve anxiety, and depress the central nervous system. Only a little herb can help, you can sip an herbal tea, diffuse lavender oil in your bedroom or lay your head upon a lavender scented pillow. These help you to relax and fall asleep.

Bananas

Banana is a good solution for how to sleep better which contains potassium and magnesium. It can help your muscles relax and you will be able to let go of stress more easily and drift into a deeper sleep. Besides, bananas contain Vitamin B6 which aids in the body’s production of serotonin, a precursor to the other sleep hormone melatonin.

Sweet potatoes

Sweet potato is not only a superfood which helps to boost the immune system, it also helps to combat sleep deprivation. Other than Vitamin A, sweet potato contains potassium which can encourage muscles to relax.  And sweet potato also contains B6 which is a dose of sleep inducing complex carbohydrates.
