Single-use plastic bags are a major environmental threat. Annually we are polluting our planet with trillions of plastic bags, usually ending up in landfills, or in waterways and oceans. Marine life (e.g., sea turtles) often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish (food) that takes up room in their stomachs and are often found dead with stomachs full of plastic waste. Wondering what we can do to save the planet? Read on and find out how you can do good together with Watsons.
Do good together and beat the plastic!
By 2050, there will be more plastics in the oceans than fish. This will severely impact wildlife and ecosystems. You can change this by bringing your own bag.
In our efforts to be more sustainable, Watsons Singapore has been encouraging customers to be more environmentally friendly via Bring Your Own Bag (BYOB) Tuesdays, which has successfully cut down plastic bags given instore on Tuesdays by over 75%. The good news is that we will extend BYOB to Monday to Wednesday, given the success of this sustainability campaign.
Did you know?
A single plastic bag takes up to 700 years to start breaking down. As it contains non-renewable petrochemicals, when it starts to degrade, it crumbles into microplastics that absorb toxins and continue to pollute the environment.
