With the new makeup trends coming up, are you having the craving to buy all sorts of new products? Also, new year came, you may also want to embrace a bit of “out with the old, in with the new” ritual. Ladies, it’s time to make room for new products by tossing the old, and tired products sitting away! Here’s how to do it effectively.

So, to start, the first and most important step to take inventory of the products you use and to assess their ingredients. As tedious as it may seem, it’s important to familiarize yourself with ingredients and to find helpful tools to guide you along the way. Toss any products that are due to expire. Everything has a shelf life. Mascaras and lipsticks go bad the quickest and they can spread dangerous bacteria.

The best way to make organizing easier is to sort the product out according to its shelf life. Follow the general rule that mascara, and liquid eye products once opened should only be kept 2-3 months, liquid foundation up to a year, and lipstick up to a year, then you can grab what you need easier and keep track of the “age” of products in your makeup bag.

Clean the interior of your bag as well. A disinfecting wipe is good for any type of plastic-lined bags. For soft cloth versions, you can just throw in a washing machine with your laundry.

After the old products are cleared, it’s time to revamp your makeup bag and make it green? Once you have taken stock of all your makeup products, check the product ratings based on their ingredients. Hang on to all products that contains the least toxic ingredients, replace those contains toxic chemicals with natural products. Then your makeup bag will be good for a brand-new season!
